Sunday Treat - Egg And Coconut Oil Mask

Every Sunday I try to treat myself to a spa-like beauty session. It’s always a treatment that I don’t have time to carry out during the working week. Something that will allow me to relax and enjoy a couple hours of a good book or a tv show.
Three weeks ago I discovered DIY hair mask recommended by Andrea’s Choice on you tube.
I can honestly say it’s the best thing that happened to my hair since 1997 (I think that is about time when I started to heat and dye the crap out of them).
Normally I stay away from DIY beauty products. That is because it often takes more time and money to find the ingredients then buy a readymade thing. I wish I had energy and willingness to make my own beauty products but I’m just too lazy to do so. It was different with this hair mask. It seemed too simple and too affordable to be true. I gave it a go thinking it will be my first and last time experience with homemade hair mask. But I have been treating my hair to it every Sunday since then.
All you need is a coconut oil and an egg. My Nan swears by benefits of egg mask but the idea was never appealing to me.  I should have listened to her ages ago! Andrea explains pretty well benefits of this mask so go to her channel if you want some more info on that.

That is the only coconut oil I had but once it’s used I will purchase this one

Scoop a spoon full of coconut oil (it is solid when cold) and put in in a microwaveable bowl. Warm it up. You don’t want it to be too hot or else it will lose its benefits. Add a raw egg and mix it well. I have also added a few drops of Argan Oil I brought from Morocco.

Scratchy wants this treatment too! He doesn’t need it thou. His fur is very soft and shiny :)

Gross!!
I recommend putting a towel around your arms and doing it over the sink. It gets quite messy. I don’t ever wear any make up when doing this. Hairs with all that stuff on them are bound to touch your face at some point. I don’t want to worry about it ruining my make up. Apply it all over the hair concentrating on the end if they are more damaged than the rest of the hair. You can also rub it into your scalp if you suffer from dry skin there. You hair will go stiff after a few minutes cause of the egg.

Attractive, right?

Put a foil over your head (I use a carrier bag
) and twist it on the front. Sit with it on for as long as you can from 30 to 60 minutes.

Hair can stay greasy feeling up to two days after this treatment when using your regular shampoo to wash it off. I’ve found Superdrag Green Apple & Lime Deeply Cleansing Shampoo takes the entire oiliness from the hair. And because all of the proteins and other goodness got soaked inside of the hair it is not stripped from what we’ve just given it.  I wash this mask off once with normal shampoo and once with cleansing one.

It is so difficult to have bleached blond shiny hair. I didn’t think I will ever see any shine on them. I am so happy I have tried this mask cause results are unbelievable! My hair has never been so soft and shiny! None of the bought products have ever managed to achieve what this have. Another thing, this effect lasts for a whole week. Even after washing my hair 3 times after this treatment they were still oh so soft. Mask also helped my scalp. I was scratching my head all the time and could see my skin flaking. I have noticed a big improvement on the itching.

Have you ever tried this and if yes, what did you think? Do you like DIY beauty products?
